THE outtakes at the end of Licence To Wed show the cast laughing manically.

I'm glad they found something funny.

Obviously, they hadn't been watching this latest Robin Williams movie - I refuse to use the word comedy - about a minister who makes couples getting wed in his church take a marriage preparation course. This matches last week's alleged comedy Evan Almighty for sheer unfunniness and is a further indication that Williams' screen career is so far down the pan it's blocking the U-bend.

Ben (Kraskinski, from the US television version of The Office) and Sadie (Moore) are young and in love. Can their romance stand the test of taking the Rev Frank's (Williams) course to get them ready for the ups and down of married life? They must survive a no sex before the wedding rule while undergoing various tutorials and practical tests set up by the barking mad man in the dog collar.

His methods are extreme. These include planting a bug in the couple's bedroom to ensure there's no nookey and getting her to drive blindfold under her fiance's instructions to demonstrate her total trust in him. Williams does his usual trick of ad-libbing and overplaying at every opportunity. Krasinksi and Moore just blend blandly into the background faced with such a disgraceful display of showing off.

"Let's get the flock out of here," says the Rev on leaving the church. I couldn't agree more.
