Vaydm Kholodenko stars in Darlington concert

DARLINGTON Piano Society celebrates its 21st season with six recitals that bring artists of the highest quality to the Dolphin Centre. Among them is the star name of Vaydm Kholodenko, the 2013 Ukranian winner of America’s most prestigious competition, the Van Cliburn competition. Following his success there, he has established a reputation in the US before engaging in his first UK tour and his recital includes works by Liszt, his performances of which secured him the first prize, alongside other works by Scriabin and Rachmaninov.

The season begins on October 23, with acclaimed British pianist Ashley Wass, who brings a recital built upon works inspired by Shakespearean themes. On November 20, Ashley Fripp will play having been the highest positioned British pianist at last year’s Leeds International Piano competition. Subsequent recitals, until March, include Olivia Sham (who played for the society in 2009), Jinah Shim (a current holder of the prestigious Making Music’s Award for Young Concert Artists Scheme), and the distinguished French pianist, Amandine Savary, who concludes the season with works by Robert and Clara Schumann.

Concerts take place at 3pm on Sunday afternoons at the Central Hall, in the Dolphin Centre. The exception is the November 20 date, which will be held at the Queen Elizabeth 6th Form College.
