DANCERS are making their way along the Pennine Way to celebrate the national trail's 50th anniversary. The project's three dancers, a musician and a video artist are visiting five towns and villages, including the Dales Countryside Museum, in Hawes, North Yorkshire, with the support of Arts Council England.

The mixed artform performance sees the group walk a local section of the route during the day, and improvise a response the same evening in a process of "immediate re-imagining".

The dancers will re-live, reflect and interpret their shared experiences of the walk, accompanied by a live musical soundscape and video clips live-mixed to stimulate a mutual exchange between the five collaborators, each answering and challenging the others throughout the 30 to 40-minute performance. Those taking part are Ruth Jones, Stacey Johnstone, Natalie Speake, David Birchall and Simon Warner.

The presentation will be preceded by a short introduction to the geology and landscape of the Pennines by William Varley, of West Yorkshire Geology Trust.

The Hawes performance of 50 Steps – Walking and Dancing the Pennine Way takes place on Monday, July 20, at 7pm. Tickets £8 (children £5) bookable at museum reception or by calling 01969-666210, or at the door.
