Ryan Bingham - Fear and Saturday Night
If you're a film fan and rate Jeff Bridges 'Crazy Heart' movie you will no doubt be aware of the musical centrepiece of the film in a song called 'The Weary Kind'.
You may not have been aware however of that fact that it was written and recorded by Ryan Bingham and earned him an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Grammy, which in turn helped rocket him into the spotlight.
There's a saying in musical circles that to be a success "you have to live some and experience the knocks".
It seems Ryan Bingham has had his fair share.
"A lot of people didn't realise when that Oscar stuff was going on and 'Junky Star' was released I was dealing with the loss of my parents", he says "My Mother drank herself to death and my father shot himself".
For this new offering he needed peace and quiet and relocated to an old airstream trailer in the mountains of California, embracing the solitude he dug down deep into his emotions and perhaps created his most authentic and personal album to date.
There's a great mix of light and shade in the twelve cuts each complimented with the hard edge gravelly vocals which add that extra feel and personable touch to each of the takes.
Feeling musicianship adds tone and quality throughout the album.
It's an album he should be proud of and certainly a great addition to your CD collection if you're an eclectic country music listener.
The album is released today here in the UK on the Humphead Record label, and he can be seen as part of a promotional tour at the following places...Jan 31st Whelans, Dublin Ireland, Feb 1st King Tut's Glasgow and The Borderline , London on Feb 2nd.
