IS there anyone more prolific than Neil Young? It seems like almost every other month he has a new album out.
This latest release offers two interpretations of the same songs.
On one CD you have Young solo, stripped down and raw, his trademark voice accompanied by just a guitar and the occasional mouth organ.
While on the other, the songs are given the orchestral treatment.
Some work – I Want To Drive My Car - and some don’t - Tumbleweed. It’s not like Metallica’s S & M, for example, the orchestral parts of which seem completely at odds with the rest of the songs. No, it’s just that having listened to both CDs I much prefer the minimalist rather than the full on approach.
Whatever your view, there is no doubting that at 68, Young’s creativity and sheer love of music show no signs of waning and for that we should all be grateful.
