THE Californian parodist – whose real name is Alfred Matthew Yankovic – has indicated that his 14th studio album, the last of his Sony contract, could be his last altogether, as the YouTube era necessitates a change of approach.
An immediate concession is to release eight videos on successive days, starting with the cameo-laden Tacky, a take of Pharrell Williams’ ubiquitous Happy. Iggy Azalea’s Fancy becomes the DIY-themed Handy, Lorde’s Royals a tribute to the many virtues of aluminium foil, while the ever-present scattergun polka medley takes in such unlikely bedfellows as Daft Punk, One Direction, Miley Cyrus, Psy, Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen, Pitbull and a tubapowered LMFAO.
