HAVING written hits for artists like Katy Perry, Rihanna and Beyonce, Sia Furler has turned her attention to her own LP. You may have already been introduced to the Australian’s sixth studio album via the first single and album opener Chandelier, which begins with a simple drum and vocal intro before transforming into a searing, anthemic track. Elsewhere, the more up-tempo tunes impress.
Burn The Pages sees Sia’s vocals subtly slide up and down scales while Free The Animal sounds (instrumentally at least) almost Chaka Khan-esque. This is a proper pop album, but in a good way, with too many quirks and intricacies on display for it to be just like any other generic release. If 1000 Forms of Fear doesn’t prove to be as big a commercial hit as the tunes Sia pens for others, it’ll be a shame.
