THIS ambitious double CD makes available Tim’s impressions of the North-East, his home base for the previous ten years.
It was performed at last year’s Gateshead Jazz Festival and then, as here, the strings of the Royal Northern Sinfonia (in particularly good form) provide the foundation for what is effectively a concerto for jazz saxophone and strings.
The other CD celebrates ten years of his smaller group Lighthouse, featuring master percussionist Asaf Sirkis and no less than three pianists, Jason Rebello, John Turville and Geoff Keezer.
Although all these and John Patitucci and Ant Law make telling contributions, this is primarily a showcase for Tim’s saxophones and his composing abilities.
