Shostakovich’s Symphony No 7 Leningrad, written during the height of the Second World War became a musical symbol of resistance and ultimate victory. Sir Mark Elder, conducting the Halle, conveys the full sweep of its drama in a performance of searing intensity.
Highly recommended.
