CRITICALLY acclaimed in the author’s native US, this tells the story of Bidwell Smith’s journey as she navigates through life following the loss of both her parents to cancer, by the time she reaches the age of 24.
The story is extremely well and beautifully written, conveying the feelings of something I am yet to, but will inevitably, face. Written in five parts demonstrating the stages of grief; denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, the narrative within each part moves between childhood and adulthood, in a flashback/ flashforward narrative.
A real page-turner, Bidwell Smith’s writing and story means you really root for her throughout the narrative. It was heart wrenching at times, and I would recommend keeping a box of tissues close to hand.
