START queuing now – tickets for Berwick Kaler’s Old Mother Goose, his 36th pantomime at York Theatre Royal go on sale tomorrow.
As usual hundreds of pantomime fans are expected to be in the queue when booking opens at the theatre’s box office at 9am.
Many get in line the night before to ensure they get their preferred seats in the show written and starring the UK’s longest-serving pantomime dame.
This year Kaler, right, and comedy sidekick Martin Barrass will greet dedicated fans who have camped overnight to buy tickets.
Kaler’s Old Mother Goose is a story about good versus evil being put to the test when two fairies battle for supremacy.
The bad fairy claims any human being can be corrupted; the good fairy throws down a challenge and chooses Old Mother Goose as an example of all that is good and cannot be corrupted. The bad fairy sets off to prove the good fairy wrong.
It’s one of Kaler’s personal favourites. “So begins yet another classic panto ‘tale of the unexpected’, a tale to mystify your senses, a tale to tax anyone’s credulity, but above all a tale that will have the whole family enthralled in a world of laughter that never ceases,” says the dame. “It’s true – why not come and see the show and find out if we’re telling tales.”
- The show runs from December 11 to January 31.
Tickets can be bought at the theatre box office tomorrow from 9am, online from 8pm and by phone from Monday from 9am. Visit yorktheatre royal.co.uk or call the box office on 01904-623568 for more information.
