IT’S been more than three decades since Hazel O’Connor made an impact with her starring role in the 1980 film Breaking Glass and the accompanying single from the soundtrack, Will You, with its haunting saxophone solo.
Born in Coventry and now aged 58, the former punk princess sounds a lot more mellow these days, although she’s clearly still a fan of the saxophone, with its mournful tones augmenting several songs here. Opener I Call Out Your Name showcases O’Connor’s vocals to winning effect, although the pick of these eclectic tracks is her interpretation of the French classic Ne Me Quitte Pas. My Friend Jack is also impressive.
