SKATERS consists of Boston-born Michael Ian Cummings, Los Angeles native Noah Rubin and Joshua Hubbard from Hull. The trio met in Manhattan, and subsequently named their poppunk debut album after the New York borough, with former Paddingtons guitarist Hubbard regularly making the trip from his London base.
The band’s influences are pretty clear. I Wanna Dance (But I Don’t Know How) evokes The Ramones with its explosive chorus, Schemers, One Of Us and Fear Of The Knife are reminiscent of The Clash, while Miss Teen Massachusetts and Symptomatic compare favourably to The Strokes on this accomplished release.
