KASABIAN make hulking great tunes with attitude - and for that their fans love them.
There's no plinky-plonk pianos or jaunty choruses here. Instead, what you get is a wall of noise, grinding guitars and massive bass lines backed by sharp electronic beats.
On a freezing cold night, they turned up the heat inside the Metro Radio Arena with a blistering set, frontman Tom Meighan setting the tone and regularly whipping the crowd up with expletive laden cries of "Come on, Newcastle".
Heck, even a trumpeteer who appeared latterly on one of the songs had to give it full pelt in a bid to be heard above the noise. There was the odd lull to be had, but that could be excused given the general unrelenting intensity.
Recent single Shoot The Runner was an early highlight, along with a storming Empire. But the slower By My Side and Stuntman also stood out. Fans' favourites Club Foot and LSF were among tracks from the band's debut album of two years ago to also be given an airing - to the delight of the audience.
Complaints about queues for the toilets and the inevitable battle to get a drink aside, a top show.
