SOUNDING like a cross between Graham Fellows and The Divine Comedy, Tynesiders Peculiar Disco Moves tackle the often tempestuous relationship between footballers and fans.
Joining Fee, the money given to many of todays players for simply committing to their chosen club, seeks to highlight the disparity between their carefree existence and that of the man in the street who has to balance paying for his season ticket with feeding the family and keeping them warm.
Not a reference to any team in particular, though I have my suspicions, its more a dig at the culture of todays game. Jogging along at a delightful pace, Alix Shepherds vocals are accompanied by a barbershop quartet style arrangement that serves to give the song an air of parody. Sadly, the subject matter is anything but as light-hearted as the tune might suggest. A refreshing alternative to much of what passes for new music these days.
Joining Fee is released on November 22 and is available for streaming via www.peculiardiscomoves.com/music A launch show will take place at the Newcastle Institute for Mining on the same day.
