IT’S the battle of the barmaids as Woolpack landlady Diane returns to Emmerdale (ITV1) and announces she intends to go Down Under. No, not to the cellar to change a barrel, but to the land of Neighbours and Home And Away. That’s right, Australia.
Daughter Bernice and co-licensee Chas have been minding the pub and behind the bar during Diane’s absence.
Both are keen to know her plans for the future and staggered when they hear about the Aussie plan.
Sister Val isn’t pleased either as it trumps her own plan to live in Portugal, but she persists in trying to persuade husband Eric to move aboard for a life of sun and cocktails. Mostly cocktails.
A familiar face turns up for the opening Ian’s new eatery in EastEnders (BBC1) – the one called Ian Beale @ Le Square until Janine changes the name, without telling him, to Scarlett’s.
Danny, you may recall, beat a hasty retreat from the Square after his fling with Syed behind Christian’s back, so to speak. He’s a money man so when Ian’s financial package falls through, he asks Danny to invest in the restaurant. Having witnessed total chaos at the opening of the place, he’s hardly likely to do that.
But he does hang around Albert Square. Only a few people know what (and who) he got up to last time. That would be Syed’s father Masood and Christian’s chum Roxy the doxy. I can’t imagine they’ll welcome Danny back with open arms.
Everyone is worried about Dev in Coronation Street (ITV1). He’s been acting strangely for some time (just ask any TV critic and they’ll tell you that).
Now he’s having to deal with Sunita dying in the fire in the Rovers Return and then her being blamed for starting it.
Dev is determined to prove her innocent, which is very worrying for Karl, who was responsible for the blaze and then implicating Sunita.
Only one thing brightens up Dev’s day – mad Mary, who’s providing childcare for his twins, Aadi and Asha.
If only she didn’t keep calling them Aldi and Asda.
No wonder cunning Karl is worried that his secret will be revealed. He begins spreading rumours that Dev is losing his marbles (did he ever have any?) in a bid to thwart the widower’s desire to get to the truth about the fire.
