‘Ding, dong” as Leslie Phillips would say. The Belle is ringing and the young man on the end of the line is Sean. He and Belle Dingle (immortalised in that famous Christmas song Dingle Bells) have been lovebirds before in Emmerdale (ITV1) but the last time they dated things didn’t run too smoothly.
Their friendship has been tested of late by the appearance of troublesome Thomas King, who swept Belle off her feet like a Bex Bissell carpet sweeper.
He’s out of the picture now so Belle and Sean hook up again and seal it with a kiss in the Woolpack (have you ever been kissed in the Woolpack, missus?).
But I sense trouble. Belle’s best friend Gemma proved anything but a best friend with her meddling in the Thomas King affair. There’s also the little problem of Gemma and Sean having had a fumble that both regret and have decided to keep quiet about. When Gemma sees him back with Belle will she renege on her promise not to tell Belle?
In Walford, Kirsty’s ex, Carl, is about to be released from prison and his brother Adam is pestering her with calls to go and see him in EastEnders (BBC1).
When Mad Max finds out he wastes no time in rounding up a posse – well, his brother Jack – and wading in when Adam sends threatening voicemails to Kirsty.
She’s desperate to distract Max from her pregnancy, or rather her lack of bun in the oven. Another day, another pregnancy test, another negative result.
So she goes on about Adam being a pest to take Max’s mind off becoming a father.
Max comes off worse in a punch-up until the cavalry, in the shape of excopper Jack, arrives to save the day. If only he could make Kirsty pregnant, he’d be a real hero.
Good news for Weatherfield drinkers (Coronation Street, ITV1) – Stella is planning a Bank Holiday relaunch for the Rovers following its refurbishment after the fire that claimed Sunita’s life.
Her widower Dev is dedicating himself to finding out how the fire started.
The guilty party is right under his nose – Karl, Stella’s ex who’s now her ex ex and wanting to marry her. He’s happy that the fickle finger of blame is pointing at Sunita, who can’t defend herself (unless she joins the cast of The Waking Dead).
Dev’s determined to clear Sunita’s name, which can only be bad news for Karl. Roy’s having a bad time too following the death of his estranged father, St John. He seems determined to ignore him in death, just as he did in life. Roy’s mother Sylvia takes action, organising a grand day out – to the graveside at the cemetery.
