THE problem with progressive or experimental rock is that what might sound good in the head of the creator doesn’t always translate to the recording studio. Arcane Roots, though belonging to that genre, are much better than that.
While clearly progressive, they manage to give their tracks popular appeal. For a debut album, there is some impressive material hidden within.
Flitting between melodic gentle rhythms, the Kingston Upon Thames trio suddenly cut loose and launch into a full-on assault before switching back, leading the listener on emotional musical rollercoaster.
