THE Mavericks In Time release is a new offering from the band after an absence of nine years.

Founded in 1989, they developed a unique sound which took on a Tex-Mex cuban style, complementing great rhythms, accompanied by a vibrant horn section. Between 1991 and 2003 they recorded six studio albums as well as 14 singles on the Billboard Charts.

Disbanding in 2004, lead singer Raul Malo had a solo career with six albums, one being recorded live with the Northern Sinfonia Orchestra at The Sage Gateshead.

In 2012 the band announced plans for several reunion festival dates. When news of their reformation circulated they were offered a record deal by Big Machine Records and In Time is being billed as their reunion album.

From the first bars, the listener is treated to brilliant rhythms and counter rhythms, through moody ballads to up-beat tempo dance numbers.

That class in all its glory can be heard live in three months’ time when, as part of this year’s SummerTyne Americana Festival, The Mavericks headline the opening night on Friday, July 19.

Whether you experience the show live (and it’s a show that shouldn’t be missed) or whether you treat yourself to their new CD, you will not be able to keep your feet still as they take on a life of their own to one of the greatest infectious musical styles.

For a taster join me on this Saturday’s American Connection Special broadcast (euvue.co.uk) when I’ll be playing three tracks from the album.
