THE Denver, Colorado-based threepiece, lead vocalist and guitarist Wesley Schultz, drummer Jeremiah Fraites and cellist Neyla Pekarek, release their debut self-titled album.
With a more country sound than their English nu-folk counterparts Mumford And Sons, The Lumineers infuse raw Americana into their punchy altcountry offerings. The simplicity of the music is lovely, with tracks such as Dead Sea achieving soulful power without being overwhelmingly impassioned. While Submarines never quite reaches the epic crescendo it alludes to, their debut single Ho Hey is outstanding – a hard-hitting track which feels like a summer’s afternoon at a music festival. This up-and-coming band show great promise, with each track on here fulfilling expectations.
