THERE are shades of Beth Orton and Beth Rowley, as well as a healthy dose of Norah Jones, to this debut album from indie-folk singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni. Fans of those acts will find themselves right at home here, while those not already sold by the inclusion of such names should nevertheless resolve to give this beautiful, soulful artist a chance. Opener Breathe Easy sets the tone and pace of the album well, beginning slowly and subtly with soft strings before building into something almost bombastic. Under Mountains is a pure delight, simply stunning from one track to the next, and worthy of inclusion in any discerning music fan’s collection.
