PEDIGREE Salers breeders from the region achieved the top female price at last week’s breed sale at Perth.
Rigel Lolita, a Sagitaire sired in-calf heifer from Rigel Pedigree, Middleton-on- Leven, near Yarm, made 3,000 guineas.
She is due to calve shortly to the French-bred bull Casimir, which was imported from last year’s French Salers Society bull test station sale.
Casimir was the overall breed champion at the Royal Show and junior champion at last year’s Great Yorkshire Show.
The Pye family, who run the farm, also sold three heifers and two bulls at Perth.
Both bulls made 2,500 guineas. The heifers averaged 2,400 guineas and went to suckler farmers.
Rigel Pedigree will take seven pedigree cows/heifers and a bull to tomorrow’s Hexham beef breeding sale, and five heifers and three bulls to the Salers Society premier sale at Castle Douglas, in Scotland, on November 7.
