LAW students from Darlington met Britain’s most senior female judge.
The group from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College travelled to Yarm School to meet Lady Hale, deputy president of the Supreme Court and the only woman to have been appointed to it.
Giles Bayliss, head of law at the college, said it was highly informative.
“Lady Hale talked about her career and her current role in the Supreme Court, focusing on women in the judiciary.
“A question-and-answer session followed the talk and students were than able to meet Lady Hale before the journey back to Darlington.”
Mr Bayliss thanked his counterpart at Yarm School for inviting the students.
Lady Hale was brought up in Scorton, near Richmond, and attended Richmond Girls’ High School, now Richmond School.
She was the first student from the school to go to Cambridge and her path to high judicial office has seen her teaching law at Manchester University.
She qualified as a barrister but, unusually, was not a practising lawyer at the time she was appointed as a judge in 1994.
