NINE pupils from Longfield School, in Darlington, visited subsea engineering firm DeepOcean today as part of a campaign to promote engineering and show pupils how many different local job opportunities are available.
The programme aims to break down misconceptions about certain jobs and show pupils the variety of jobs available to them, especially locally.
The pupils got to look at what the business does and how it operates around the world through a series of presentations on the equipment, operations, locations and experience that current employers have had working with DeepOcean.
They were also able to talk to two university graduates about what qualifications they needed to become an engineer and how they got a job working with a firm such as DeepOcean.
The pupils learnt lots and enjoyed the visit. One pupil said: "The visit was really interesting and it showed us the engineering opportunities there are and what engineering consists of."
