DESPITE the economic downturn, overseas markets still offer plenty of promise for North-East firms.
And with the economy now showing early signs of recovery, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) continues to work hard to deliver its promise that if you have a product or service which is right for an overseas market, we will help get you there.
One of the key elements of ensuring your success in a new market is research – doing your homework and finding out about your target market is an essential investment. But you don’t have to do it alone, UKTI offers a range of advice and support services designed to help including the Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS).
OMIS offers companies access to teams of experts in virtually every major city in the world, which can provide in-depth knowledge and advice on the market and the opportunities it offers.
In the past year, 239 North-East companies have taken advantage of OMIS to explore the potential in markets worldwide and they’re already reaping the rewards.
However, we know each market and each business is unique, that’s why OMIS is a flexible business tool, which will put you in touch with the staff in our overseas offices who can give you business advice and visit support for your chosen market.
They will discuss the options with you before drawing up a work plan, including firm delivery dates for key reports. There are ten levels of service depending on your business requirements, including identification of business opportunities and prospects, arranging appointments, market sector overview and even arranging an event at the Embassy to launch your product or service.
Clearly, it makes sense to find out as much as you can about a new market before embarking on any export plan. Our team of international trade advisors in the North-East are on hand to offer expert advice and support to new and experienced exporters in drawing up their own export strategy.
OMIS can then provide the more detailed research needed to enable to them to put that strategy into action and help ensure everything is in place to maximise their chances of success.
