SANDERSON Weatherall and King Sturge acting on behalf of Easter Developments have secured the two biggest warehouse lettings in Darlington this year.
Outsourcing firm Capita Business Services and Cold Store Logistics LTD have both taken units at the Faverdale East Business Park, on the north-western outskirts of Darlington.
Cold Store Logistics have taken a ten-year lease on unit four, which totals 100,000 sq ft.
The acquisition forms part of an aggressive expansion programme in agreement with Aldi Supermarkets, who have a contract with Cold Store Logistics Ltd to handle and re-package goods on their behalf.
Capita Businesses Services have taken a ten-year lease on unit one, comprising 40,000 sq ft. The facility will be used for document storage and data centre facilities.
Jonathan Simpson, associate director at Sanderson Weatherall, said: “As far as location goes, Darlington is hard to beat.
“It is less than a mile from the A1 and is within easy access of Durham Tees Valley Airport and Teesport.
The two lettings underpin the ongoing activity the area has recently seen in the logistics and distribution market.
The A1 corridor around Darlington is firmly on the map as a distribution location. Last year the Clipper Group, which serves the retail sector, took a 160,000 sq ft building in Darlington.
Argos and Aldi have substantial warehousing operations in Faverdale and Lidl has recently completed the construction of a new 350,000 sq ft distribution facility one junction further north at Newton Aycliffe.
Following these two lettings two units of 20,000 and 30,000 sq ft remain vacant. Both units are available for sale or to let.
He added: “The site is ideal for any light industrial/warehouse firms wishing to establish a base in the North-East, or who are on the lookout for more strategically placed premises.
“Despite the tough economic climate, I don’t think it will be long before Faverdale East has a full complement of occupiers.”
