Acting on behalf of restaurateurs David and Marion Owens, the Newcastle office of Christie + Co, has sold the freehold interest in Minister's Restaurant in Sedgefield, County Durham, to a multiple operator from the North-East.

During their three years of ownership, the Owens developed an excellent reputation for fine cuisine and the restaurant is well known throughout the region.

When the former Prime Minister visited his Sedgefield constituency he would often dine at the appropriately named Minister's, and the Owens have cooked many a meal at the Blairs' home.

The Owens are now moving on to pursue other business interests.

The restaurant occupies a two-storey, mid-terrace, character stone property within a conservation area in Church View, in the heart of the village.

Briefly, it comprises a 40-cover restaurant, 25-cover bar reception area, a 35-cover conservatory, two-bedroom owners' accommodation and patio with walled garden and fountain.

Brent Smithson, of Christie + Co, said: "Minister's has been sold, amidst strong interest, to Sunderland-based buyer Neil Harvey as an addition to his freehold commercial property portfolio.

"Mr Harvey will close the restaurant for refurbishment and then reopen the business as an Indian restaurant.

"As the sale of Minister's demonstrated, demand for quality freehold restaurants in desirable locations within the North-East continues to outstrip supply."

Christie + Co sought £495,000 for the freehold interest in the restaurant, which has been sold for an undisclosed figure.
