AN apprentice joiner has been acknowledged for his skills.
Callum Newton, from Peterlee, east Durham, was awarded a trophy for winning the North East Skills Competition.
The 18-year-old former East Durham College student took part in the event, sponsored by the Association of Colleges, earlier this year.
He received his award at a ceremony at Middlesbrough College.
Mr Newton, who now works for Adam Yews Joinery, said the competition was a fantastic chance to showcase his skills.
Dominic Hunt, the college’s programme leader for joinery and carpentry, added: “The students love taking part in these competitions, it really pushes them to show off their skills and perfect them.
“Callum put in a great performance on the day and I know he thinks it was a brilliant highlight to the time he had on the course with us.”
