THE Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has presented a Teesside University student with a top student award for excellence in engineering.
David Hamilton has been awarded the ICE Student Prize after excelling throughout his BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering degree, for which he achieved a first class honours degree.
The prize is awarded to the student who has performed best in the last two years of their Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) accredited civil engineering course, on the recommendation from their course leaders.
David, 35, who is from Hartlepool, has worked as a structural engineer at Jacobs Engineering since 2011, having joined during the second year of his course.
He said: “I am delighted to have won such a prestigious award and it is very pleasing to be recognised by my lecturers at Teesside University in this way. The award is something that will help me stand out in the future, so I am thrilled to have been accredited with the ICE Student Award.”
Penny Marshall, the interim director of the Institution of Civil Engineers North East, said: “The ICE Student award is presented to someone who has exceptional engineering talent and demonstrates a great commitment to the industry, and David more than fits the bill.
“He is a deserving winner of the ICE Student Prize for his dedication to his studies and in engineering as a whole, having worked extremely hard throughout university while working as an engineer with Jacobs.
"David is an asset to our industry and I would like to wish him all the best with his career.”
