THE Norstec meeting came as Stockton-based Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical unveiled a new remote operated vehicle (ROV) that will help it to secure more work in the renewables and oil and gas sectors.

The Q1000 trencher, built by Soil Machine Dynamics in Wallsend, can operate in water depths of up to 2,000m to bury pipelines, umbilicals and cables.

In July, the company won a £40m contract to install cables for the Gwynt y Mor wind farm off the coast of North Wales, which is set to become the largest in Europe.

Daryl Lynch, the firm’s managing director, told The Northern Echo that the company, a subsidiary of Reef Subsea, expects to create about 20 jobs in the year ahead in addition to the 40 staff based at its Teesside office.
