COUNTY Durham headquartered C&A Pumps is being closed by parent company Renew.
The business based in Bowburn, near Durham City, which was bought by Renew in October 2008, had found it increasingly to trade profitably.
A trading loss of £300,000, together with £300,000 of redundancy costs and £1.4m of non-cash asset write downs including £900,000 of goodwill, will be shown by Renew in its annual results to September 30.
C&A Pumps provided a wide range of pumps from small cellar drainers to large flood defence systems.
It was founded in 1984 by John Anderson, Trevor Crisp and their wives, initially offering sales and repairs before expanding into other mechanical services such as metal fabrication and health and safety training. It was a supplier to a wide range of industries including construction, manufacturing, chemical process, and councils across the region.
The firm had won several awards for its training and apprenticeship schemes.
