A DIGITAL firm which started life in 2010 with two members of staff could help to turn around the fortunes of Sony’s struggling Playstation (PS) Vita console, according to a well-respected business magazine.
Double Eleven, which now employs 40 people, was commissioned to create a version of LittleBigPlanet for the Vita, and it has launched to rave reviews.
World-renowned business title Forbes has speculated the game could help make the system a success. Video games contributor Erik Kain said: “LittleBigPlanet Vita could be the first step toward rekindling Sony’s struggling PS Vita handheld console.”
He said the game could help to turn around the fortunes of the handheld touch-screen console, which has struggled amid a market saturated by smart phones, adding: “Enthusiasm over the Vita has been held in check by the aforementioned obstacles, but I think LittleBigPlanet may be a tipping point for the system.”
The game has also received the highest rating of any game released on the PS Vita so far on website Metacritic, which aggregates reviews to form an industry-accepted standard of quality.
Lee Hutchinson, chief executive and founder of Double Eleven, said: “We are delighted with the feedback. LittleBigPlanet is a fantastic franchise to be a part of and we wanted to ensure we got it just right, both for ourselves and for the dedicated fans it has.
“The PS Vita faces stiff competition from smart phones, such as the iPhone and android devices, so highprofile games are vital to Sony’s success in selling its video game systems.”
Double Eleven is now working on its next projects but is remaining tight-lipped as to what they might be.
