A LEADING North-East academic has been appointed chairman of an organisation aimed at increasing collaboration between universities and industry.
Professor Chris Brink, the vice-chancellor of Newcastle University, has been appointed as the new chairman of the N8 Research Partnership.
The N8 Research Partnership is a collaboration between the universities of Durham, Newcastle, York, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield.
It combines the expertise of the research intensive universities to create collaborations with industry in fields such as regenerative medicine and molecular engineering.
Professor Brink, who will officially take up his position in February next year, will be responsible for the development of new research collaborations with business to support economic growth and job creation in the North of England.
Professor Brink, who is also on the board of the North Eastern Local Enterprise Partnership, said: "As a cluster of research intensive universities we have a critical role to play in fostering innovation across the UK, in partnership with large and small business, public sector partners and Government."
