AN ELECTRICAL engineering firm is targeting clients for whom data security is vital, after receiving a £100,000 investment.

Resilient Power Solutions (RPS) design, install and commission critical power systems for sensitive sites such as data centres and Government buildings.

Despite only being founded by electrician John McGee four years ago the Billingham firm now has a turnover of £900,000 and employs 16.

The firm has now received a £100,000 investment from the Finance For Business North East Growth Fund as it aims to increase turnover by at least 50 per cent in the next year

The fund, managed by NEL Fund Managers, is one of seven under the umbrella of the £125m Finance for Business North-East super fund, formerly called Jeremie.

Two new jobs have already been created at RPS this year, and Mr McGee is expecting more to follow, as it targets a wider variety of larger clients, to add to customers which already include the Metropolitan Police, EDS Energy and The National Archives in London.

The systems designed and installed by RPS's team of engineers provide back-up power in the event of mains failure, thus ensuring that services remain uninterrupted and continuously available.

Mr McGee said: "The critical power industry has taken a massive jump forwards over the last few years, and the experience of our team in this area has enabled us to quickly build up a strong presence in this market right across the UK.

"Our aim is to take the company's turnover to at least £1.2m by this time next year by widening the range of critical power contracts for which we're competing, and the addition of a new mechanical arm to the business will also help us reach and surpass this target.

"NEL's support has given us the financial flexibility we need to adapt to opportunities as they arise."
