THE founder of a North-East risk management firm is taking part in an iconic 3,000 mile rally in order to promote the company.

Adrian Harris of Gateshead based Opia is presently taking part in the Gumball 3000 rally, which left Britain on Thursday.

The event, which has previously attracted celebrity participants including model Jodie Kidd and actor David Hasselhoff, sees participants drive from London to Istanbul in eight days.

Mr Harris is driving an Opia sponsored Porsche in the event, in order to promote the company on the European stage.

Since being founded three years ago the firms revenue has risen to more than £6m and staff numbers have grown to 24.

Mr Harris said: "It's been a whirlwind and very demanding three years.

"Gumball 3000 is an opportunity to let off steam but also carry the name of Opia across Europe.

"We have plans for further expansion of the business and participation in Gumball 3000 fits naturally into that because so many brands and influential people are involved in it."
