NEXUS is to spend more than £22m modernising the Tyne and Wear Metro.
The system’s owner plans to modernise the route between Byker and Tynemouth during the spring.
It will involve a 23-day closure between Saturday, March 12, and Sunday, April 3, plus a series of weekend closures and building works at stations.
The work will be the biggest modernisation project on a Metro line since the system opened in 1980.
