THE son of a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan last year is to go on a break with his mother thanks to a national charity.
Serjeant (correct) Steven Campbell, 30, of Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, County Durham, was killed by a bomb while he was riding a quad bike on patrol with 3rd Battalion The Rifles in Sangin.
The charity Scotty's Little Soldiers has approached 10-year-old son Brandon and his mother Lisa with the offer of a holiday.
The organisation was formed last year to support the children of men and women killed in action while serving with the British Armed Forces.
Mrs Campbell said: "Brandon has been through a lot and he deserves to be spoiled."
The charity was set up in memory of honours her 2nd Royal Tank Regiment soldier Corporal Lee "Scotty" Scott, 26, from Norfolk, who lost his life in July 2009 to a Taliban bomb in Helmand Province.
A spokesman for the charity said: "Families like the Campbells go through agony when they lose a family member and we want to help as many people like Brandon as we can."
