A COUNTY Durham man has overcome serious injury to set up a driveway cleaning business.
Malcolm Oliver, 49, from Seaham, shattered his leg when he fell off a ladder in an accident at work last year and his injuries meant he was no longer able to work as a plumber and he needed to find another source of income.
After a lengthy stay in hospital and rehabilitation, Mr Oliver was offered support from business start-up organisation Be Enterprising.
It helped him put together a business plan for a driveway cleaning service which utilises the high pressure washers Mr Oliver had used as a plumber. The business also offers a graffiti removal and gutter cleaning service.
Mr Oliver said: “When I fell, I assumed the leg would heal and I’d be back to work before long. But it took a long time and is still painful.
“It became obvious my old business wasn’t an option because of the heavy lifting.
“I found the advice and support from Be Enterprising invaluable.
“They gave me something to really focus on at a time when I was unable to work.
“I would recommend anyone in my area with a business idea to go and speak to them.”
