A NORTH-EAST solar energy firm has reported a dramatic increase in inquiries from householders.

The upturn in business for Aeris Solutions, based in Guisborough, North Yorkshire, comes after August saw a record number of solar panel installations throughout the country.

It follows the introduction of the Government feed-in tariff in April, through which householders receive payment for electricity their solar panels create.

According to Nick Corfield, who founded the business with Steve Hewison, the average three-bedroom household will earn between £900 to £1,000 per year generating solar power - as well as a significant saving on electricity bills.

Aeris Solutions is Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited - essential for homeowners who want to capitalise on the feed-in tariff because only MCS installations are accepted on the scheme.

Mr Hewison, 37, said: "Solar is the fastest growing form of green power generation technology in the world.

"It is already used in more than 100 countries."

Aeris Solutions offers a range of related services from the initial site survey, to the construction and fitting of the panels, to the connection to an existing power supply and the National Grid.

The company also offers custom-build systems for homes and businesses.

Mr Hewison said: "We're a local family-run firm.

"We don't employ salesmen.

You just get friendly expert advice directly from us, the people who install your system. " "The industry has huge growth potential.

"Pretty soon, fitting solar panels could be as commonplace as fitting UPVC double glazing
