NEW start-ups in the Tees Valley have only a week left to get their entries in for the Best New Business Awards 2010.

Fledgling firms recognised at the awards in the past which have gone on to become successful international companies, include Citrox, Global Transport Logistics, Kate Fearnley and Qurios Entertainments.

The competition is open to businesses which have been up and running since July 1 2007.

Organiser Colin Brown, of independent financial advisors Lighthouse Temple, said: “The success of some of our previous entrants has been fantastic and anything we can do to help, encourage and promote new business in the current climate has got to be a good thing.”

This year, businesses are encouraged to enter the environment award category, and showcase all the good work being done by businesses implementing environmental programmes.

Prize money will be awarded of up to £1,500 for the overall winner and £500 for each category winner.

Last year, Thornaby-based IT firm Cornerstone Business Solutions was crowned overall winner from 121 entries.
