THE manager of a bookies has proved she is a safe bet after winning a top award.

William Hill shop manager Jane Noble has been crowned manager of the year at the Betview Awards, dubbed the betting industry’s Oscars.

Mrs Noble, who manages the William Hill Cockerton branch in Darlington, triumphed over four other finalists to scoop the award, which recognises management and customer service.

To win, she underwent a visit from a mystery visitor to the shop and a grilling from the judging panel.

Having begun her career at 18, Mrs Noble, who lives in Guisborough, east Cleveland, has 20 years of betting shop experience and has been managing the Cockerton branch for the past two years.

She said: “I feel like a celebrity at the moment and it was such a brilliant night, but I don’t think anyone was more shocked than me when I won.

“It’s such a cliche, but really it’s all about my shop team. They are fantastic and I’m especially grateful for the support of my deputy manager, Nadine.”
