ENGINEERING group Torday & Carlisle has changed its name after selling all but one of its businesses.
The listed company is now named E Wood Holdings, putting the focus on its remaining manufacturing business, E Wood Limited, of Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
A spokesman for the pipe coating specialist said yesterday: "The Torday & Carlisle name was associated with engineering, but there are no engineering companies left.
"They have one subsidiary and that is E Wood, which is globally renowned as a manufacturer of high performance coatings."
North Shields-based Torday & Carlisle merged with Meristem, of Weatherby, in 2000, bringing together a group of companies including DMI, E Wood and Solvitol, all based in the region, and CSM in Cheshire.
Engineering business DMI (Diesel Marine International), based in North Shields, Tyneside, was sold off in 2001. The following year, CSM was sold to a US company. In December, manufacturing firm Solvitol, based in Birtley, Tyneside, was sold for £3.25m.
Last year, E Wood achieved record sales and profits. Turnover for 2005 was £24.4m, up from £19.9m in 2004, while operating profit grew from £2.6m to £3.3m. Last month, it won a Queen's Award for its development of a polyurethane lining used in drinking water pipelines.
