DOZENS of potential employers and training providers will visit the mothballed Corus Teesside Cast Products Plant next week.

More than 35 potential employers and 15 training providers will be exhibiting at a two-day event in Steel House, Redcar, on Monday and Tuesday, from 10am to 4pm.

The employment and training event is part of the package of help being delivered by the Corus Response Group to support TCP workers and those in its supply chain affected by redundancy.

Once the mothballing is completed, 1,600 workers at TCP are facing redundancy, unless a buyer comes forward to run the plant as a going concern.

Anne Bell, Jobcentre Plus project manager, has co-ordinated the employment and training event.

She said. “We have genuine employers with genuine vacancies who have set aside these two days to directly reach Corus employees.”

The firms exhibiting at the event include regional and national companies in sectors including engineering, logistics, construction and new and renewable energy.

Alan Clarke, One North East chief executive and chairman of the Corus Response Group, said: “The employment and training event will bring expert help directly to those who need it most at a time of great uncertainty for workers, to guide them to the best options to help them move forward.

“The two-day event is open to all TCP and contract workers plus any supply chain staff at risk of redundancy because of the plant’s partial mothballing.”

So far, about 1,000 workers have booked and attended appointments to access more services provided by employment experts, such as CV updating, financial services and self employment opportunities.
