EMPLOYERS in the North-East are being urged to help pull the region out of recession by working with young people.

Young Enterprise North- East (YENE) has launched its 2020 Vision campaign to secure a commitment from businesses over the next decade to help a new generation of entrepreneurs and employees.

Catherine Marchant, YENE chief executive, said: “Our future leaders are at school right now so, as the region’s longest-standing enterprise education provider, we now need to reach the education, business and youth audiences to inspire them to work together.”

As well as encouraging businesses to work with schools, the campaign aims to encourage more schools and teachers to get involved in YENE’s enterprise education programmes.

Tim Pain, head of business, enterprise and skills at One North East, which supports 2020 Vision, said: “We share many of the priorities identified by YENE.

“Inspiring entrepreneurs of tomorrow, and providing conditions in which they can thrive, will create the businesses and jobs that will help our economy.”
