MORE than 200 jobs in the region’s thriving contact centre industry will be on offer at a recruitment event.
The Contact Centre Recruitment Day, one of the UK’s largest events of its kind, is being held in Sunderland next week, and will include representatives from centre operators including Barclays, EDF Energy, Lloyds TSB and 2Touch.
The event, organised by Sunderland City Council and sponsored by Barclays, will give people the opportunity to find out about potential career opportunities in the contact centre industry. Information on training will also be provided.
Despite the recession, the contact centre sector has remained strong, and is one of the biggest employers in Sunderland with about 10,000 workers. It accounts for generating more than £150m for the local economy.
Councillor Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “The recruitment day is an ideal opportunity for those out of work or looking to change career to find out about openings in the sector. It is a fantastic industry to work in and the career prospects are outstanding.”
The event, first held in 1999, takes place in Arizona Bar at The Point, in Sunderland’s Park Lane, on Thursday, from 11am to 4pm.
