DESPITE the process industry bearing the brunt of some of the toughest economic conditions of modern times, a brighter future lies ahead, delegates heard.

The North-East Process Industries Cluster (Nepic) held its annual awards dinner on Friday, attended by more than 400 representatives from the sector, as well as MPs Dari Taylor, Vera Baird and Phil Wilson.

The event celebrated the achievements of the North- East’s chemical, biotechnology, biofuel and pharmaceutical companies and their supply chain over the past 12 months.

Bob Coxon, chairman of Nepic, said he believed the future for the sector is bright.

“The vast majority of the 500 businesses in Nepic are coming through this phase ‘bloodied but not out’ and they are ready to prosper as the economy recovers,”

he said
