DESPITE some of the worst weather conditions for years, bringing much of the country to a standstill, a farm feed manufacturing business from the region has fulfilled its deliveries.
FeedCo delivers to some of the most rural parts of the North-East and North Yorkshire, but despite treacherous driving conditions all farmers received their supplies.
The company’s fleet of ten lorries reached their destinations to deliver the 2,000 weekly tonnes of feed and throughout the bad weather, all of FeedCo’s 20 workers made into the company’s base in Piercebridge, near Darlington.
Mark Meynell, a director at FeedCo – a joint venture between Piercebridge-based Farmway and Lloyds Animal Feeds, of Oswestry – said: “The conditions out there were atrocious last week, but all of our deliveries got through, despite some awful journeys.
“One of our drivers had to sleep in his lorry overnight when he got stuck, and had to wait until the next morning for the road to be cleared, but he still got there.
“I saw stories in the news about farmers having to get rid of their milk because lorries could not get through to collect it, but we managed to get to all of our customers.”
Mr Meynell said workers were also able to get into the FeedCo offices and feed mill each day, even those who work during the night.
“We have a 24/7 operation, and even during the night we have two people here, but each day everyone managed to get in,” he said.
“Our operations manager, Ray Asquith, has got a 4x4 and was available to collect anyone who could not dig themselves out, but everyone managed to make it.
“It’s quite heartening that everyone made the effort to get here, and that our drivers all managed to make the deliveries.
Their efforts are very much appreciated by the owners, shareholders, and even more so by our customers.”
