AN animal sanctuary has shown its green credentials by being given an award from a North-East council.
Dogs Trust Darlington was presented with the Green Business of the Year Award by Hartlepool Borough Council.
North-East education officer Louise Close picked up the accolade on behalf of the charity, which is based at Sadberge, near Darlington.
The ceremony was at Hartlepool Quay, with an audience of 80 people including local council dignitaries.
The award was for making the biggest contribution towards Hartlepool’s mission to be the most environmentally friendly town in the UK.
Ms Close has been working with the Pride in Hartlepool team over the past year, visiting primary schools.
She said: “I was immensely proud that the work of Dogs Trust has finally been recognised and publicised around the Tees Valley area, especially since there was quite a bit of stiff competition.
“Dogs Trust Education team works tirelessly towards nurturing dog owners of tomorrow.
“My framed certificate will take pride of place at Dogs Trust Darlington.”
