TWO visitor attractions have been highlighted as some of the best in the county.

The National Railway Museum (NRM), in York, and York Theatre Royal both won White Rose Awards, which commend excellence in Yorkshire’s tourism industry.

NRM was named visitor attraction of the year (50,000 visitors and over) for the fifth time since the awards began, while the production of the Railway Children organised by the theatre and held at the NRM won best tourism experience The NRM is the most visited museum outside London, and attracted more than 770,000 visitors during the 2008-9 financial year. Its production of The Railway Children, repeated this year, sold 26,000 tickets for 2009 – 9.2 per cent more than last year.

Winners of the White Rose Awards were unveiled at a ceremony in Leeds, and will now represent Yorkshire in the national Enjoy England awards.
