A EUROPEAN law firm has donated thousands of pounds to help young entrepreneurs in the North- East.
The donation of £10,000 by Taylor Wessing for youth charity The Prince’s Trust Business Programme in the North-East will be matched by the European regional development fund’s Enterprising Young People programme.
The funds will now be used for The Trust’s Business Programme in the North-East, giving young people funding and support to start up in business.
The funding follows Taylor Wessing’s annual sponsorship of The Prince’s Trust’s Technology Leadership Group, a fundraising and networking forum for companies in the technology industry.
It comes as the firm works alongside Seahambased business development organisation Business Link, arranging day-long entrepreneurs’ colleges across the region.
The sessions cover legal and business issues for companies, allowing firms access to Taylor Wessing’s pool of expertise at no cost, in order to help them raise finance, develop and build on their successes.
Taylor Wessing partner Tim Stocks said: “We are delighted to continue our support for North-East entrepreneurs by helping the Prince’s Trust with this donation.
“We look forward to seeing start-up companies in the North-East grow further and help them put their plans into action.”
Julian Barrell, director of fundraising for The Prince’s Trust said: “We need £1m a week to help young people reach their potential.
“Taylor Wessing’s support is instrumental to this success – particularly in this difficult economic climate.”
Nicki Clark, assistant chief executive of Business and Enterprise North- East, which runs the region’s Business Link and International Trade services, said: “It is more important than ever that companies do what they can to support entrepreneurialism and innovation.
Taylor Wessing LLP is a great example of that and their generosity and expertise has enabled people to access opportunities that would otherwise have been unavailable to them.”
Taylor Wessing is a leading law firm providing support for commercial organisations doing business in Europe, the Middle East and China.
The Prince’s Trust was founded by The Prince of Wales in 1976.
It has helped more than 600,000 young people across the UK and continues to support 100 more every working day.
